Horton Technique – Deep South Dance Extension Course

Deep South Dance launched a brand-new FREE Extension Course, open to dancers and dance studios across the Deep South.

Led by Sarah Cookney, this three-week course introduced dancers to the fundamentals of Horton Technique and gave them the opportunity to explore a different approach to strength, alignment, flexibility and movement.

INTRODUCTION TO HORTON TECHNIQUE

Over three consecutive Tuesday classes, dancers were introduced to the foundations of Horton Technique and challenged to extend themselves beyond their usual training.

The course focused on:

  • The basic principles and vocabulary of Horton Technique
  • Strength, control and body alignment
  • Flexibility and range of movement
  • Coordination and full-body movement
  • Developing greater awareness and intention in movement

Designed as an introduction, dancers did not need previous Horton experience to take part.

It was a fantastic opportunity for dancers from different studios across the Deep South to train together, experience something new and add another valuable layer to their dance education.
